Day 10

Happy Humpday, everyone. Yes. It’s Wednesday. I am making it a point to try and remember the week day. I think it’s been almost a month of working from my couch office now. And even though, I have been working from home for longer stretches of time before, this definitely feels different. Today was especially different, as my apprentice was in Day Care and our daily routine was off because of that. When we get him back, he is usually super tired.

I am pretty sure it’s different for you too, be it because you are under lockdown or because this time working from home includes having your kids around all day, trying to catch your attention. How are you managing your day? What is your strategy for staying productive despite all potential distractions?

BREAKING NEWS!

It seems, that news are traveling a little slower the further South you get. So today Gov. DeSantis realized, almost 3 weeks after his colleagues in NY and California, a thing called Covid-19 exists and has apparently infected almost 8,000 people in Florida, while he was busy giving press conferences with a lot of blablabla and zero decisions. I am trying to picture how this went down? Did he wake up this morning and his wife said: “honey, I love you and I know you do not like to make decisions that might impact your next election. But are you sure there will be voters left, if you do not close the State already? Can I get you some more coffee?”.

Or his friend Mr. T. called him and said: “hey, make sure there is still Mr. T. voters left comes election time in November, remember that Florida is a clear Mr. T State. I do not believe in this whole Covid-19 nonsense cause it’s a hoax of the democrats. But just in case…you feel me?”.

Sadly, I can see both versions to be true, but as a disclaimer, both versions are my ideas, how it could have happened, and are not based on real people or stories.

Oh wait, just re-read the article in the NBC 6 news app and it is version 2 – he decided after he consulted with Mr. T. today. Do you know the saying “two blind men talking about the wall color?” It’s a German saying, but I think you get the point.

Either way, here it is (finally). The statewide stay@home order. I saw this coming, but did not expect Mr. DeSantis to have the courage, to make a decision. I guess the covidiots in Florida did not leave him too much room. Unfortunately, it will be another 3-4 weeks from now, until we will see results, IF we are lucky.

Do you remember the ponytail club? I am afraid these ladies will continue to be out and about, unless someone goes into more detail on the exceptions. Outdoor exercise is still allowed – they should maybe add by yourself or with your immediate family, that is living with you, not in groups such ponytail or bicycle clubs. If I learned one thing, since having moved to the US, common sense is not as common as one would expect. You got to be literal. And when you think you are, you are probably not.

Don’t get me wrong – we have an energetic yellow labrador retriever and we are trying to accomplish some move and exercise goals to stay fit and healthy, so we totally appreciate the “outdoor exercise” exception. I am just doubtful the Floridians will get it. But I am happy to be proven wrong! Should I be right and they have to revoke that exception, I better have a strategy for workouts in the garden.

This stay@home order might now finally be the end of our daily Starbucks coffee. It goes into effect tomorrow at midnight, so we will indulge in tomorrow’s coffee for sure and from there I will have to focus on the fact, that I will save a lot of calories each day, that I can “invest” into something else (likely chocolate or ice cream). My sense of normalcy will be gone, though. I will of course report all my withdrawal symptoms and how I am coping.

As I said before, I am very lucky. I am together with my family. We are healthy and we are doing everything, that it stays that way. I hope you are able to be together with loved ones. Or if you are not literally together, I hope you are having virtual contact with your family or the ones, that have become your family such as friends.

Please continue to share your acts of kindness and your comments. As much as you tell me, this keeps you company and distracts you, it is the same the other way around. Your comments and feedback are my energy to continue writing. That and all the covidiots out there.

Thanks for joining me on this weirdest journey I have been on in the last 45 years. Your virtual company means a lot to me!

Keep your distance. Stay healthy and happy and take care!

Hugs,

Nannette

What a time to be alive¡! Some days I am able to stay in the positive side and feel we will be learning valuable lessons and be better in the future.

But some other days… worries are with me all day long.

Thank you for another update Nannette. The days seem to be flying by but there is also a sense of, “when will this be over for the sake of those being negatively impacted?”. I wish I had an answer. But for now, I will do my part to protect my family and stay at home so I am not affecting others negatively.

I hear you! Unfortunately there are also still 9 States, that have not yet even issued any stay@home order. So even if things improve where these orders were issued, you would have to restrict travel from these States to get this really under control. It is so sad, that this country right now is missing the tough loving father kind of leader, that understands if you love your citizens, you need to be the one making the tough decisions. Hang in there!
